1. מתי החלה ההיכרות שלך עם עולם הדומיינים?

I started getting interested in domains in 2001. I was operating
an online retail business and while looking for marketing
opportunities I ran into domains and started looking into them further.

2. מה היה הדומיין הראשון שרכשת?

The first domain I ever bought was CDStore.com and I bought it on
ebay. I was in the music business at the time and it seemed like a
good investment for me. I ended up making my money back the first 10
months of ownership and later when the market started drying up for
CD's because of napster, limewire, etc. I ended up selling for 4 times
my purchase price. Thats when I got hooked.

The first domain I ever sold was Momma.com. I sold it for $100,000
. as a domain name only

The guy who purchased the domain is just parking it so nothing
, much to say there. I did buy the name for $10k a few years before I sold

4. כמה דומיינים נמצאים כרגע בבעלותך? ציין בפנינו מספר דומיינים ששייכים לך.

Today I currently hold about 500 domain names. I have a lot of
product related names like Fridges.com, some Geo's like Mongolia.org
and some premiums like Order.com, Location.com and uBuy.com

5. מה הטעות הגדולה ביותר שלך כדומיינר?

I never like looking back. You can always say I wish I did that
or I wish I knew this. I believe everything that happens is for a
reason and ends up for good. I cannot complain about a single thing
and I am greatful for everything I have.

6. האם דומיינים הינם תחום העיסוק העיקרי שלך?

Domaining is one of the main businesses I have. I also run an
online retail operation and a comparison shopping engine.

7. מדוע לדעתך דומיינים נחשבים להשקעה טובה?

I feel domains are a good investment because they will always be
here as long as the internet is around. They are relatively cheap to
maintain at $8/year per domain. Most importantly if you own a
category killer domain I believe that you really have a leg up on your
competition. Thats not to say you cannot succeed using a brandable
name but if your in the business of selling Fridges for instance and
you buy a name like Fridges.com the amount of type-ins you receive for
the life of the domain and the credibility that comes with it and the
repeat business can save a company a lot of money they would have
otherwise needed to spend on marketing and branding.

8. האם מכרת אי פעם דומיין בהפסד?

I have never sold a domain name for a loss. I receive offers
nearly every day for at least one domain but I have rarely sold any
in the past.

9. האם היתה לך הזדמנות לרכוש דומיין טוב אך ויתרת עליה?

Again, I dont really like to look back on what "could have or
should have". Of course there are always names your after that you
just couldnt get. One that comes to mind is Torah.com. I dont think
the price was in my range anyways so not sure that counts or not.
Anything that was in my range for the most part I was able to get. I
do remember of course trying to catch some of the good names off the
drop and losing out to the bigger companies like pool.com, etc.

I get asked this question a lot from people I know and I think
its never too late to get into the domain business. In fact I think
there is a great opportunity now for someone to get into domains. The
recession has hit our market for sure for some of the secondary level
domains and there are great deals to be had out there right now. The
real premiums havent been affected in my mind and those are always
real hard to get unless you have some serious cash to start with. One
tip for someone starting small would be to start slow and do some
reading on the forums like dnforum and the blogs on domaining.com.
You can learn a lot and there is tons of information out there from
some of the biggest domainers in the world. There are always
opportunities in registering new names for registration fee. One
example would be to start with something your familiar with. For
example, if your a doctor in brooklyn start out by buying something in
your field. Whether it be a name like brooklyndoctor.com or even
(smallertown)doctor.com thats a good fit for you. Also, there are
always new technologies coming out in your field and thats where
theres opportunity in registering names that only you and a select few
know about. Once you own domains in your field you will start getting
a better sense of domain values and what there worth to an end-user or
wholesaler based on the keyword, search volume, etc. Once you get to
know values you will be able to put a value on a domain as soon as you
see it.Once your able to do that there is also money in flipping
domain names today. I know people who are making a good living just
by doing that.

11. מה אתה חושב על דומיינים מסוג ccTLD's כגון co.uk , .in , .de. וכד'?

I am not a big fan of all the new extensions that are coming out, but

Regarding .co.uk or .de I think there will always
be a market for them in there respective location (GEO related domains), Just like .co.il
will always be used in Israel the same for other locations.

12. האם לדעתך ניתן למצוא דומיין איכותי דרך חברות לרישום דומיינים?

There arent many good domains left to register for $8 in the
.com's but net's and .org's I have been seeing many decent new
registrations and like I said before there is always opportunities in
new technologies in your area of expertise that you can register.

13. איך מצטייר בעיניך העתיד של תעשיית הדומיינים?

I see the future of domains merging with many other fields.
Everyone knows that domainers are looking much more into development
these days because of the parking revenues drying up so I think the
smart domainers will start going into marketing, ecommerce and instead
of building minisites in bulk will focus more on the premiums and
build real full fledged businesses out of them. My main business
today is doing just that. I am now running a full-fledged ecommerce
business using 5 of my premium domains and plan on launching atleast
another 5 stores within the year. I think more domainers should
follow this path. There is definitely money to be made with affiliate
sites but I always say why do all the work for another site for a
small fee when you can do it for yourself and build up equity in your
own company.

14. האם השווי של דומיינים בסיומת ישראלית .co.il יעלה עם השנים?

I havent looked in the Israeli market much but I do think the
premium .co.il's will continue to rise in value over the years.

15. האם אתה מכיר דומיינרים ישראלים?

I have heard of a few other Israeli domainers and im not
surprised to hear that a few of them are one of the top domainers in
the world. Sahar Sarid comes to mind.

16. האם היית ממליץ לחבריך להיכנס לתחום?

Yes I would recommend a good friend who does the proper due
diligence to invest in domains today.

17. האם לדעתך דומיינים ייחשבו כנדל"ן אמיתי בעוד כ – 10 או 20 שנה?

I know people always like to compare domains to real estate and
it sounds real good but I just dont see it that way. Real estate is
an asset thats a necessity for people to survive. Domains are more of
a marketing tool.

18. האם לדעתך ה IDN's יחוללו מהפכה בתחום תעשיית הדומיינים בפרט והאינטרנט בכלל?

The future of IDN's I honestly dont know too much about them. I
think there will be some sort of future for IDN's but the question
is when will that happen. It might be sooner than we think but since
it involves languages I am not familiar with I never did look into
it. This could be a mistake on my part but I would much rather
invest in a .com today than any other name
